Central Valley Home School - Poem from a Parent

William Baker, a Central Valley Home School parent, wrote a poem for the CVHS staff.  He has given permission to share it on the blog.

Thankful Hearts

I wrote this for all of you
Who work at Central Valley Home School
Because there are things that go unsaid
Even though the thoughts are in our heads
First of all I’d like to say
That I am grateful to you every day
Because as I watch my children as they grow
I am thankful for the things that they have come to know
And even though we have all done our parts
We couldn’t have done it without your hearts
You know the ones that took our children aside
And taught them that they didn’t have to hide
As they began to learn and grow
Into somebody that only God really knows
I’m not saying that they’re perfect little beings
As you know proof of this has been seen
But I am saying that it brings joy to my heart and tears to my eyes
To see them stand up with pride
As they walk through this life
Believing in themselves and what is right
So remember that when things get tough
That the love God has put in your hearts is enough
To help you keep pushing on
So that they can live better lives from dusk til dawn
Knowing that somebody truly cares
When so much of the world really isn’t there
At least in a way that really matters for their sakes
Because so many things in it are sadly fake
And as they grow into adults
They will realize that it’s not their fault
That the world is like it is
Because they grew up as awesome kids
And with some real hope
They will truly be able to cope
And help to change many lives
In a world so lost and filled with strife
So thanks again with all our hearts
For loving our children from the start
As you‘ve watched them grow
And go through the things which they did go
As you helped them see
who it is that they can truly be.

PBIS—Positive Behavioral Interactions and Supports

Island Community Day School Staff are currently being trained to implement PBIS. This champion model will allow us to implement proactive, school-wide prevention practices. We are really excited about this shift and the possibilities that it can have for our students. We have seen how this framework has benefited other sites in our district and are more than happy to begin
implementation. Your students may come home telling you we expect them to ROCK. This is absolutely true.

Champions for Tomorrow—Tanya Crevier and Caleb Crevier

ICDS students had a great time at a recent assembly with Tanya Crevier and Caleb Crevier. These champions had a positive and inspirational message: Enthusiasm wins the GAME (Goals, Attitude, Morals, Ethics). This theme was interwoven throughout the show where they spun several balls, juggled, show-cased their acrobatic skills, and rode on a unicycle 10 feet in the air! Champions don’t give up, they keep trying. Students were even given a playing card autographed by Tanya.

Spotlight on Lori Arnsberger

Mrs. Arnsberger has been part of CVHS for the past 18 years! In addition to her list of students, Mrs. Arnsberger is our K-1 Literacy teacher and serves as a representative for an Early Literacy Council that we participate in. She truly enjoys working with families to help them have rewarding home school experiences.

Mrs. Arnsberger and her husband, Brad, have two children and four grandchildren. She enjoys hiking, camping. and and acting as sous chef for her husband as his hobby is cooking.

Kids Nite at Fresno Chaffee Zoo

Central Valley Home School recently had the pleasure of hosting a booth at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo for Kids Nite. We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a more fun event. We even spotted a couple of CVHS students while speaking with families about the benefits of homeschooling with us. Word of mouth is always our best advertisement.  Please share with your family and friends who may be considering this option for their children's education.

Fundraising with See's is Sweet!

Our ONE fundraiser of the year is upon us. CVHS students will be asked to sell See’s candy from 10/5/15 —11/20/15. All proceeds from this fundraiser go towards assemblies, fieldtrips and other educational opportunities for our students. Many of you may have friends and families who are not interested in candy but want to help. They can make a contribution to CVHS ASB.

Did you know that as a school we make more money off the smaller less expensive boxes of candy than we do the bigger ones? Please encourage friends/family to consider purchasing the Mini Holly/Christmas Bear assortments — they are delicious, make great gifts, and the candy will arrive before Winter Break!

SHARES, BOX TOPS, AND CAMBELL’S

SOUP LABELS FOR EDUCATION

A huge thanks goes out to SaveMart. They generously donate to our school, in cash, up to 3% of your total purchase. Just swipe your S.H.A.R.E.S. card every time you shop. Proceeds go directly to opportunities for our students. We are also very appreciative of the Box Top and Labels for Education programs. Last year we were able to purchase a school t-shirt for every student in our program thanks to fundraising efforts and generous sponsors.  Funds raised this year will go to covering the admission cost of field trips. The more we raise, the more experiences our students receive.

Shaun Harper played in the NFL for 7 years. He talked to students about “breaking free from the chains that hold them back” He had them laughing and cheering as he showed us his strength. Students were encouraged to share what was on their heart.

Rafer Johnson 1st Annual Color Run

We held our 1st Color Run on Oct. 1st. It was so much fun! We want to thank our many parent and community volunteers for their help. We got to splash color on students as they ran over 4 miles!

We also had almost $1,000 in community business donations towards this fundraiser. Students gathered pledges to help raise money for field trips, assemblies, and other fun activities.

This is called our PRIDE Matrix. All students have seen it. It is posted in all classrooms at Rafer. Is lists out the expectations in our school.

Reagan Elementary School - October 2015 Newsletter

On Friday, September 18, Kingsburg High School invited our local elementary schools to participate in their annual Elementary Night.   Our top sellers for our Magazine Sales were honored at the game.  These students were able to run through the tunnel and be on the field as their name was read.  As a school, we brought in over $38,000 in total sales.!  We will be able to keep 37.5% of these monies, so thank you for your support of our Mustangs as we strive to continue to provide a quality education for our students.

On Wednesday, September 30, Former Pro Basketball player and South Dakota State University Hall of Famer, Tanya Crevier and her nephew Caleb Crevier swooped into Reagan for a fun-filled assembly.  The duo completed many tricks involving spinning, juggling, and bouncing basketballs.  At one point Caleb got up onto his ten foot unicycle and rode around the outdoor stage area, spinning two basketballs at the same time.  The Crevier’s brought an important message of GAME (Goals, Attitude, Morals, Excellence) to our Mustangs.  They stressed the importance of Never Giving Up and working hard towards your dreams and aspirations.  Students and staff members came away stating that this was a great assembly with a powerful message.  We would like to thank the Crevier’s and Champions For Tomorrow for bringing these inspirational people to our school.

BAND

The Band March-a-Thon is quickly approaching.  Our annual event will be held on Wednesday, October 28 as our Mustangs will join with the Rafer Johnson band and march through town and back to Reagan.  If you would like to assist in any way, please contact Mrs. Sigle or Mr. Awbrey.

CHOIR

Mr. Merritt recently held auditions for Honor Choir and 43 Mustangs will now makeup the class.  Honor Choir will meet on select Wednesdays after school.

2nd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. Quattrin’s Class

Learning in the Garden

Mrs. Quattrin’s class is learning all about plants, soil, and insects in the garden. We are harvesting tomatoes and peppers, deadheading, and clearing some space for the fall garden. We had a great time painting and decorating the planter boxes, rocks, and stepping stones. We look forward to learning in the garden all year~the garden makes for a great classroom!

3rd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. Dignan’s Class

In Mrs. Dignan’s class, new constellations have appeared in our galaxy! Students in Room 22 have been learning about our solar system the past 3 weeks. This week, students created a new constellation using the shape of their body. Each student named their constellation, gave information about which season it would be seen in, and which hemisphere it could be seen from. Students enjoyed learning about moon phases, how the Earth rotates, making constellations, interesting planet facts, and so much more! Students also wrote three paragraph essays about a planet of their choice and a paragraph about their constellation.

Goodies with Grandparents

Washington hosted “Goodies with Grandparents”in September. Over 400 cinnamon rolls were served to Washington students and grandparents.  The families also had a chance to get their photo taken courtesy of Island Photography. It was so much fun to see the
children and their grandparents enjoying a nice breakfast together! Many grandparents mentioned that they had been students at Washington School, which made the morning extra special!
Next up is Danish with Dads, which will happen
on the morning of October 23rd.

The Parent Club is Up and Running!

Washington’s Parent Club had its first meeting in September and it is an enthusiastic group! We will meet at least once a month and all are welcome. The dates of the meetings will be in this monthly newsletter. In addition, there is a Facebook page called
