Island Community Day School - June 2016

PBIS - Bronze Level

Island Community Day School has been working to
implement PBIS all school year. Our efforts have paid off both in the classroom with improved behavior and focus and recognition through our county. We are awarded the bronze level banner this past month and it is hanging proudly from our fence.

We will continue to focus on improving our systems through PBIS in years to come.

Have a great summer!

6th Grade Science Camp

Our 6th grade Mustangs traveled to Calvin Crest’s Outdoor Education Science Camp last week May 23—27.  The students went on many different hikes, some even hiked through rain and hail.  Though there was inclement weather, the students all had a great time and learned valuable team building lessons that can be used in and out of the classroom.  This is an experience that some will never forget.  We would like to thank our teachers for taking time away from their families to stay with our students as well as our counselors (parent/student chaperones) for taking time away from work and their families to assist us.  This could not be possible without all of your help. A special thank you is also in order for our Governing Board for their continued support of our Science Camp program.

Gold Ribbon School
Reagan has been recognized as a Gold Ribbon School and earned a Title 1 Academic Achievement Award for all the hard work that our staff and students have accomplished.  This is a great honor that we and some of our other Kingsburg elementary schools earned.  We were presented with our award by the State Superintendent of Schools, Tom Torlakson, in a reception at the new Tulare County Office of Education building.

Sports Around Reagan

Softball
The Reagan softball teams competed in the SEAL (Selma Elementary Athletic League) tournament on Friday, May 27.  Both teams played  extremely hard and both came home with trophies (girls, second place and our boys, fourth place).  It was a great season and we are proud that our students were able to demonstrate great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout.

When we return from summer vacation, please look for information for our fall sports, volleyball and flag football.

Music News

Band
The band students, under the direction of Mr. Awbrey and Mrs. Sigle, put on a great show on May 12 and 13.  The progress that the students showed and the joy that they demonstrated in playing their instruments in front of their peers and parents was great.  The students who played a special song, not in the regular playlist, all played great.

Choir
The choir students all sang beautifully in their concerts on May 19 and 20.  Mr. Merritt has been doing a great job with our students and the students are having fun, as evident from their last song in their performance.

History Day Results

On Friday, May 6, Cy Hammerstrom and William Bishop competed in the State History Day competition for their 2D board on Albert Einstein.  The students did a great job and earned a runner-up placing out of the 124 other finalists in their category.  We would like to thank Mrs. Zapata and Mrs. Bishop for all their hard work in ensuring that our students were ready and having fun.  Great job to all of our Reagan students who participated this school year in History Day.

As our 2015-2016 school year comes to a close, we would like to thank all of our parents/guardians, grandparents, Reagan PTA, friends, and families for their continued support of what our students are accomplishing.  Due to your fundraising efforts, the entrance and transportation fees for our students for our 3rd trimester PR reward activities were all taken care of.

We would also like to thank our students for all their hard work this school year.  We just finished our state testing last week and I am confident that our students did very well.  Our Reagan students are resilient and have demonstrated HONOR all school year.  We hope that you have a great summer!

Thank You!!!
