Roosevelt Elementary School - April 2014

Spring has Sprung!

I know our students have been enjoying the sunny days and have been making the most of their recess time.  With that being said, our slides were damaged and broken this past month and were not safe for student use.  The slides are a big hit at Roosevelt and a necessity for our students.  I wanted to thank the parent club for donating $ 2,500 towards the purchase of new slides!   Our new slides will be arriving soon and the students are looking forward to sliding once again!

It is hard to believe we are now heading towards the end of the school year!  We have seen great gains amongst our Roosevelt Roughriders and look forward to continued growth for the remainder of the year.

Jog-a-thon a Great Success!

Lincoln had another outstanding Jog-a-thon to raise funds for field trips, assemblies, supplies, trophies, etc.  $29,249 was raised between the two grade levels.  Thank you to all the parents, students, and community members who helped make this event such a success!  Lincoln is blessed to have parent and community support with the Jog-a-thon.  Lincoln had a fun assembly to celebrate and reward the students. Students who brought in over $75.00 had the opportunity to throw a water balloon at Mrs. DuPras.  Photos of the Jog-a-thon and the fun events afterwards can be found on Lincoln's webpage.

Washington Elementary School - April 2014

Spring Into Learning

Farm Day

On April 10, Washington teachers and students will have a day on the farm at the Washington campus.  Teachers have coordinated with community volunteers who will bring their animals to the Washington campus.  There are expected to be various animals, including sheep, goats, chickens, and a horse.  Seeing the animals up close will give students the enrichment opportunity to experience the animals live.  Students will be using their experience from Farm Day to write about what they have learned.

Amtrak Field Trip

Students will be enjoying a ride on the Amtrak Train in May.  The Train will depart from Fresno and arrive in Hanford.  Students will enjoy a nice picnic after their train ride.

Muffins with Mom

On May 2 the Parent Club will be hosting their annual Muffins with Mom event.  The fundraiser event gives Moms and any member of the family a chance to spend some special time with their child before school as they enjoy a pastry and beverage.  Island Photography will be present from 7-8 a.m. to take photos.

Bugs

Throughout the end of April and the beginning of May, students will be enjoying learning about a bugs life cycle.  Washington has purchased live butterfly and caterpillar larvae that will grow right before the students' eyes.  The butterflies and ladybugs will likely complete their transformation by open house!

Rafer Johnson Jr. High School - March 2014

Kid’s Day– Rafer Gives Back

Kid’s Day was on Tuesday, March 4th.  This year we had a group of 14 students and parents that participated.  We were at Rafer by 5:30 am!  We were given two corners near our school.  We sold 160 papers from 6:00 am-9:00 am.  Newspapers were $1 each.  When we counted the money we expected to have collected $160.  We were surprised to find out that we collected $961!!!!!  Thank you to the generous parents and community members that gave to Children’s Hospital.  This was an amazing experience and we will do it again.  The coordinator for Kingsburg Mrs. Bethel came by Rafer on Wednesday to let us know that Rafer raised the most amount in Kingsburg!!

Valentines Day at Rafer!

Our Leadership students did something special for the students and staff on Valentine’s Day.  They prepared for two weeks.  They wrote every student and staff name on a heart. They then wrote a special message on the back of each heart.  They arrived at 6:30am on Valentine’s Day and hung them up all around the school.  Students were excited to search for their heart and find it.  Thank you Leadership Class!!

Fresno Compact Business-School Awards Honors Todd Towsley - Integrative Brand Management

On March 5, 2014, Todd Towsley, owner of Integrative Brand Management, was honored at the Fresno Compact Business-School Awards luncheon in Fresno.

The Kingsburg Elementary Charter School District has partnered with Todd Towsley, owner of Integrative Brand Management, for the past three years in order to support the district's school programs and provide educational opportunities for children.

Todd has helped create fundraising campaigns for the Kingsburg Educational Foundation, bringing in over $30,000 through events such as a summer 2013 community-wide event, "School's Out! Party in the Park."

Todd's contributions have made it possible for the school district to provide over $10,000 in teacher grants through the Reach the Teach program, which funded Science Camp scholarships, high-powered telescopes for innovative astronomy classes, home economics supplies, high-tech equipment for the woodshop, and field trips to sites such as the Civil War Revisited, Burris Park Museum, and the Legion of Valor Museum.

In describing why he donates his time, finances and expertise, Todd shared that he feels that his involvement allows him to understand the daily mission of the district, to show that he appreciates the difficult task they have, and to demonstrate his support of the district's efforts.

The Jog-a-thon was a great success! Once again, Kingsburg’s students, parents, and the school staff pulled together to accomplish a great fundraiser that also promotes physical fitness for our students.  The proceeds from this fundraiser pay for field trip admissions and transportation, assemblies, playground equipment, extra educational materials, and trophies.  The staff wishes to thank you for your support in this great event!  There will be some photos of the kids jogging on our website if you were unable to come cheer your child on.   I will have the grand total to announce in next month’s newsletter.

Speaking of fundraisers, our second Box Tops for Education submission was sent in this month, and we will receive $630.  That brings our total for the year to over $1510!  Thank you for all the time cutting them out and sending them in-please continue to do so for our next submission.

Jr. Achievement Day

At the end of February our school participated in Jr. Achievement Day with employees from Guardian Industries.  What a special event for our Roosevelt  students and the many Guardian volunteers that came to work with our students.  The classrooms were filled with excitement and students eager to participate in the lessons.  I would like to thank Guardian Industries for donating 492 box tops to our school!   Their generosity is greatly appreciated and our students will benefit from their efforts!

Parent Club

On behalf of the faculty and students of Roosevelt, thank you to the parent club for their assistance with providing goodies and lunch for our guests and staff on Junior Achievement Day!  Additionally, their efforts in collecting donations for the read-a-thon also need to be recognized.  It takes a team to make a school site run efficiently.

Read-A-Thon

Our 5th annual Read-A-Thon was held on Friday, February 21st  from 8:30 – 11:30 am.  The purpose of the  Read-A-Thon is to celebrate our students as readers and raise funds for field trips, assemblies, playground needs, etc.  This is Roosevelt’s only fundraiser and this year with your help, we raised $6876.91!!  Thank you for your support, the students and staff appreciate your efforts!
