Turkey Trot Wrap Up

On Friday, January 16, the top 5 students from each grade level who turned in the most money from our Turkey Trot fundraiser were taken by limousine to Chuck E. Cheese Pizza in Visalia for an afternoon of food and fun.

Upon returning from Chuck E. Cheese Pizza, students who brought in $100 or more were treated to an ice cream sundae party in which students were able to create their own sundae with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup, and sprinkles.

On Thursday, January 22, all students who turned in $75 or more were able to throw softballs to try and dunk Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Stovall.  It was a great day as even some staff members were seen attempting to dunk Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. Stovall.  We would like to thank everyone for all their assistance with our fundraiser.

Character Trait of the MonthFebrurary - Respect

Students have been displaying good character at Roosevelt! Roosevelt Elementary School has been honoring students' efforts as they have been receiving "Caught with Character" tickets and have been entered in weekly drawings.  Once a name is drawn, the students are able to come to the office and select a special prize from the treasure box.  It is such a joy to see the excitement in the students as they proudly share the character trait they displayed in order to receive a ticket.  Way to go students!

Read-a-Thon

The Read-a-Thon is Roosevelt's primary fundraiser for the year. The plan for spending the funds this year is to purchase items for students such as technology, curriculum, playground equipment, etc.  All students are working to collect their pledges for the pages they have read.  For every $20 students bring ink they will be entered in the daily draw.  Thank you to all families who were able to donate prizes and gift cards for the daily draw.  Roosevelt is still in need of a bit more and would appreciate any donations that come in.

Central Valley Home School - February 2015

Peach Blossom - March 12, 2015

The purpose of the Peach Blossom Festival is to expose children to oral interpretation and allow them to have a positive experience at Fresno State.  The children that attend are from all areas of the Central Valley.  Past festivals have accommodated up to 6,000 children!

Students memorize and perform a poem/oral reading in front of designated judges (CSU Speech students).

Trout in the Classroom

On January 26, the coho eggs arrived.  They are currently sleeping in a dark, cold environment getting ready to hatch.  Once hatched, the cover will be removed, students will study the fry (tiny fish) for approximately 30-45 days, and then release them into an approved watershed area.  Thank you to Kaweah fly fishers for this opportunity.

Lego Robotics

Older CVHS students just wrapped up their first club meeting. They are learning to build and operate the Lego Mindstorms EV3 robot.  Technically, January through June are considered an off season for competition.  We are hoping this exposure will get their feet week and have them ready for competition competition next school year.
