Reagan Elementary School Newsletter - November 2016

Red Ribbon Week

This year Reagan Mustangs are using the “Force” to “Say NO to Drugs."  At Reagan, Red Ribbon Week kicked off with a special assembly featuring Mr. Rick Alonzo.  Mr. Alonzo provided Reagan students with a powerful message about making positive choices and having the courage to stand up to others and being the best you possibly can be.  Mr. Alonzo painted pictures (one with the assistance of his son, Jude) to go along with his message.  We would like to thank Mr. Alonzo for joining us during this important week.  Reagan Mustangs are encouraged to dress up in support of Red Ribbon Week: Tuesday—Western Day, Wednesday—Twin Day, Thursday—Military Day, Friday—Force Friday.  Remember, “Teamwork makes the Dream work.”

Band March-a-Thon

“Let’s Go, Band!!!”  On Wednesday, October 26, the Reagan band, consisting of 5th and 6th grade students, joined the Rafer Johnson Jr. High Band as they marched from Rafer to Reagan.  Mr. Awbrey and Mrs. Sigle have been preparing for this day since students first began playing their instruments this year.  The bands stopped off at different locations along the way and finished with a lunch time performance for students at Reagan.  The students sounded great and had a lot of fun during the event.  Some stated that they were going to go home and sleep because they were so tired.  This is the first opportunity that some students have had marching.  We would like to thank all those who have assisted with this event.

Sports

The Reagan Fall Sports Season will be coming to a close on Friday, November 4, as the Flag Football and Volleyball teams (Mr. Pickrell) travel to Selma to compete in the SEAL end of the season tournament.  All of our sports teams have had successful seasons in learning how to play the game and have fun.  We would like to thank coaches, Mrs. Jimenez, Mr. Pickrell, Miss Golbek, and Mr. East for giving of their time to help our students.

Online Apparel

The window to purchase Reagan gear (shirts, hooded sweatshirts, beanies, etc.) will re-open on November 7 and will stay open until November 20.  If you missed out on the opportunity to purchase an item last time, please consider ordering during this window.  Items will be printed during our Thanksgiving Break and will be delivered to Reagan during the first part of December.

Music

Band
The Band March-A-Thon is now complete and we focus our attention on the Winter Concerts to be held on December 8 and 9.

Choir
The Winter Concerts for Choir will be December 1 and 2.  All music students have been getting ready for these concerts.

KCAPS—Christmas With Dignity

From now until November 18, KCAPS has placed several boxes around all of our District’s schools in an effort to bring in toys for needy families.  KCAPS is a great organization that partners with our schools and we would like to give back by having a successful toy drive for them.  Last year, with your efforts, KCAPS was

able to provide over 500 toys for families.  Together, let’s try and bring in more toys so more families can benefit.  The toys brought in to fill the boxes should be in the original packaging.

Santa's Shop

Santa’s Shop is just around the corner and if you would like to assist, please visit the Reagan PTA Facebook page and find out how you can assist us.  There are many opportunities to help and all are welcomed to do so.  Santa’s Shop begins after the Thanksgiving Break.
