Reagan Force Run Jog-a-Thon

On Wednesday, February 24, all students at Ronald W. Reagan Elementary will participate in the “Reagan Force Run” Jog-a-Thon fundraising event.  Students will run for 30 minutes around a 300 meter oval in an effort to stay healthy and fit, but also to raise money for our school.  Students will begin seeking pledges in a few weeks from family and friends.  Like last year, students who run the most laps and/or raise the most money will receive special prizes.  The money raised from this important event will go towards end of the year activities.  

Sports

The boys and girls basketball teams have shown great poise and determination in their two games thus far this season.  Our Mustangs have played two great opponents in Wilson Elementary and Eric White Elementary, both from Selma.  Inclement weather postponed a contest with Jackson Elementary, but the makeup game is scheduled for Monday, February 1st.  On Friday, February 5th, both teams will travel to Selma to participate in the end of the season tournament.  Good luck Mustangs!

Wrestling season is underway as students are learning the fundamentals.  Meets will be announced soon. 

Destination Imagination

On Saturday, February 27, the 4th and 5th grade GATE classes will be competing in the San Joaquin Valley Regional Destination Imagination tournament at Liberty High School in Madera.  The students have been working on their challenges for a few months now and are excited that the time is almost here to show off their hard work.  The tournament is open to everyone so please consider stopping by and supporting our Mustangs.  

Music News

We would like to thank Mr. Awbrey and Mrs. Sigle for coming up with the great idea of performing during halftime of our boys basketball contest against Eric White.  The 5th grade, T/Fr band sounded great and the students all looked like they had fun.  

Congratulations to those who auditioned and were chosen for Honor Choir-Second Session.  Great job, Mustangs!

Lincoln Elementary School Newsletter - February 2016

Lincoln’s Scholastic Book Fair was Awesome!!!

During the week of January 25th-29th, we had our annual Scholastic Book Fair and it was a huge success! On Tuesday, January 26th, we had our Family Event Night, and it was great to see so many students, parents, grandparents, and friends excited about purchasing new books. 

Character Counts

Fairness is our Character Trait of the Month. Fair students play by the rules, take turns and share, are open-minded and listen to others. We all know life isn’t fair, but our students can be!

2nd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. Price’s Class

Second graders have been very busy since we came back from the holidays. Mrs. Price’s room, Rm. 3, has been working on Fairy Tales and writing opinions. We’ve also been reading about and discussing the lives and contributions of Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, and Ruby Bridges. To celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day we made wreathes of handprints to go with the poem, “My Brother.” 

Poetry and Prose is coming up soon and we are finding and memorizing poems to try out for the big day! 2nd graders are also busy trying new strategies to use with subtraction and are regrouping tens into ones. Finally, students have been taking DRA tests and it is great to see their growth in reading. Keep up the hard work!

3rd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. Dutra’s Class

MEETING THE MAYOR

Mrs. Casida's and Mrs. Dutra's classes have been learning about our U.S. Government. They have been researching the 3 Branches of Government, and have discussed the different jobs from the State and Federal levels. With this, they have written several essays on their opinion of what job they would like to have in a Government position. One job being, the Mayor of Kingsburg. Hence, they were thrilled when Staci Smith, Council Member, was able to set up a time to meet the Kingsburg Mayor, Mr. Bruce Blaney. He came to Lincoln School, Friday, Jan. 29th, to speak to the students as well as answer many of their well thought out questions. They learned all about the history of how Kingsburg was developed around and due to the railroad. Then with the help of many people volunteering, Kingsburg become a safe and thriving town. They also learned how the Mayor, as well as the City Council, are selected and what their roles are in Kingsburg.

Mrs. Casida's and Mrs. Dutra's classes would graciously like to thank Mr. Blaney and Mrs. Smith for this wonderful educational experience.

It is time to collect for the …Roosevelt READ-ATHON!

As you know, the Read-A-Thon is our biggest school sponsored fundraiser for the year! Our plan for spending the funds this year is to purchase items for students such as technology, curriculum, playground equipment, etc. In order to make this a successful event, we need help from you. This week, all students are working to collect their pledges for the pages they have read. As students turn in their pledges, they could earn a chance to win a daily draw prize. For every $20.00 students bring in, they will be entered in the daily draw. Thank you to all families who were able to donate prizes and gift cards for the daily draw. We are still in need of a bit more and would appreciate any donations that come in.

PBIS Character Trait of the Month:

February - RESPECT

I am happy to report we have been seeing students displaying STAR character at Roosevelt! As you know, we have been honoring their efforts as students have been receiving “STAR bucks” that can be used at their prize store. Students have been able to spend their bucks at the monthly prize store. I must say, it is such a joy to see the excitement in our students as they proudly share their STAR character on campus!

Parent Advisory Club

On behalf of the students and staff of Roosevelt, I would like to thank our families for their efforts in assisting with the many activities we have here at Roosevelt! It takes a team to have a great school! Way to go Roughrider families!

Washington Elementary School Newsletter - February 2016

The Spell a Thon is Here!

The Spell a Thon is a great opportunity to make sure students are learning to spell their basic sight words and help the school as well!
We are in the process of collecting prizes for our top earners, such as scooters, play equipment, gift cards, passes to popular events in the valley, and FREE ICE CREAM ON FRIDAYS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!

Prizes will be awarded at our assembly on February 19th.  All students who score 100% on their spelling lists will receive a certificate.

The class with the highest funds raised AND the highest number of participants will win a movie/popcorn party.  Students who bring in $50.00 or more will participate in a special activity.

Fun in the Snow

Students had the chance to play with snow in front of Washington in January.  The teachers used this to fun opportunity to help with reading, writing, and art activities.

Gearing up for the 2016-2017 School Year!

Registration information notices for the 2016-2017 school year are available in our front office.  Online registration begins February 9th. We will have computers available if parents wish to register on
site. 

*Deadline Requirement - Although we accept new students throughout the year, priority class placement
(teacher request consideration) will go to students who have completed the registration process prior to March 12, 2016. Teacher request forms will be available March 14th-18th.

CVHS featured during National School Choice Week

Last week was National School Choice Week. Central Valley Home School had various programs for students and parents throughout the week. ABC 30 was present and aired the video below on their website.
