KidsInvent! - Central Valley Home School

KidsInvent! Program at Central Valley Home School

Thanks to a grant and continued support from the Hillblom Foundation, Central Valley Home School has implemented a KidsInvent! program.  KidsInvent covered Professional Development materials and supplies for STEM at CVHS.  A portion of grant monies from Hillblom was spent on robotics and coding materials.  The materials will allow CVHS to have robotics at the K-8 grade level.

Please click here to see pictures from the event.

KidsInvent covered PD, materials and supplies for STEM in our school.  I had told the Hillblom foundation that I would be dedicating a portion of my budget and that is what paid for the coding and robotics.

Lincoln Elementary School Newsletter - April 2016

Poetry STAR students at Lincoln!

Congratulations are in order for Lincoln’s 2nd and 3rd grade poetry students that recently performed. Our 2nd grade students led by Mrs. Seaward and Mrs. Quattrin performed in Visalia at the annual Poetry and Prose event. All of the students did an awesome job! These students also performed at our recent student of the month assembly.

Our 3rd grade students, led by Mrs. Rosales and Mrs. Clifton, performed at Fresno State in the annual Peach Blossom Festival. All of our 3rd grade students did an exceptional job!

2nd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. Seaward’s Class

Mrs. Seaward’s Helen Keller Day
We learn through experiences! To culminate our Famous American unit of study, Mrs. Seaward’s 2nd grade and Ms. Gonzales’ 4th grade classrooms had a Helen Keller Day. The 2nd graders became Helen Keller and were blindfolded for one hour. They were guided through a variety of experiences by their 4th grade Anne Sullivan's. There was NO TALKING from anyone. The Anne Sullivan teachers had their Helen Keller's touch things and they spelled words into their hands. They also taught the 2nd grade Helen Keller's to string beads and sewing cards without one word spoken. Everything was taught by touching. Everyone agreed Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan persevered and achieved great things during their lives.

3rd Grade Spotlight – Mrs. McPherson’s Class

Students in room 2 have been extremely busy. They have been reading stories and learning about early pioneer life. Most are very thankful that we have all the conveniences of modern day as they learned about the hardships of the early settlers. Students are in the process of writing fictional narratives about this time period. Their stories have been very creative. I see a lot of budding authors in this group. In math we have been working on area, perimeter, and are beginning to study fractions. Recently, students took their benchmark assessments on the Chromebooks. They did a great job utilizing all the computer skills they have been exposed to this year. Two highlights recently were a visit from the Discovery Center. Students took part in science experiments about matter. In addition, all third grade students visited the Pena Planetarium in Visalia to reinforce our study of space. Keep up the hard work room 2! Currently, we are focusing on government. We will soon be writing our opinion papers, “Who was a better President: Washington or Lincoln?” We are excited to learn about government with the current election going on!

FUN AT THE ZOO

All kindergarten classes had a great time visiting the zoo in March. Much of what they learned and saw was reflected before and after the field trip in their reading, writing, and even in the computer lab!

Open House is coming this month!

We hope all families will come to Open House on Thursday, April 14th. Classrooms will be open from 6-7 p.m. In addition to classroom visitations, please stop by the back patio area. We will have food vendors, including Jamba Juice and Panda Express. We will also serve hot dogs, chips, and a drink combo starting at
5:30.

Island Photography will be on hand to take free family photos.
In addition, we will have the Fresno County Library mobile station. You can sign your student up for a library card on site that evening.

Any student who signs up for a library card
will receive a treat. If your student already has a library card, have it on hand that night and they will receive a treat as well. Our goal is to have all students have their own library card to prevent summer reading loss and promote responsibility in having their own library card.

We hope to see you then!
