Forestiere Underground Gardens Field Trip
On Thursday, Sept. 12, students will travel to the Forestiere Underground Gardens. They are a California State Landmark, a
Fresno City and County Historical Site, and listed on the National Register of
Historic Places. Students will see:- A hand-built network of underground rooms,
courtyards and passageways reminiscent of the ancient catacombs
- Unique fruit producing
trees, shrubs, and vines growing underground -- some over 90 years-old
- Ancient Roman architecture -
arches, vaults and stone-built walls
- Underground micro-climates -
temperature variations from 10 to 30 degrees
- Underground home of Sicilian
visionary and self-taught
artist/builder Baldassare Forestiere
CVHS Opening Day
On August 23, students and their parents toured the Kingsburg Historical Park. Tours were given and everyone enjoyed getting to know the history of Kingsburg.
Washington Elementary School - Welcome Back!
Welcome to all students and families in our
early intervention preschool, state preschool, transitional kindergarten, and
kindergarten.
Washington T-Shirts
Child T-shirts will be coming home soon. The child’s t-shirts cost the school $7 each and we would be glad to accept any donations to off-set the cost. Adults T-shirts can be purchased for $10. Let the teacher know what size and please send the money with your order.

Parent Club will have meetings very soon.
This club is for all parents! Please
join or support their efforts. The Parent
Club will do special events for parents.
They also help with the Santa Lucia float. It isn’t too soon to start planning.
The
major event put on by the Parent Club, is the Spell-A-Thon held in January. We need several prizes for students, so if
you would like to donate a gift card, small toy, or a gift certificate to the
Parent Club, they will give them as prizes for raising funds and spelling
correctly! Let’s work together! If you have questions about the Parent Club,
contact the Washington office Secretary Heather Schofield, 897-2955.

25 Reagan Elementary School - Welcome Back!
There will be school sports here at Reagan for the first time starting this school year. In the fall we will have flag football and girls volleyball for 5th and 6th grade students. For the winter season there will be boys and girls basketball for 5th and 6th grade students and then to finish off the year in the spring, there will be track for all three grade levels. Please look for more information coming home soon from our Athletic Director, Mr. Rodriguez.
Every
Friday on the Reagan campus we have “Spirit Day” class competitions where
students in each class wear the various Reagan shirts available or t-shirts
with our school colors of navy and gold to demonstrate their school pride. Winning classrooms that need to be
congratulated for the first spirit competition of the year are 105, 203, and 303. Great job
Mustangs and keep showing that school pride!

Rafer Johnson Jr. High School - Welcome Back!
Choir
Choir has grown! There are 47 girls and 27 boys in choir. Ms. Broderick has planned an exciting year.
RJJH is excited to present the musical, "Once Upon a Mattress" November 14-16. The auditions were last week and we have a great cast!
Olympians will be learning our school expectations throughout the month of September. We will abide by Olympian Pride. Pride stands for Patience, Respect, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence.
We have several new staff members that I will look forward to introducing to you at our new school board meeting. They are all doing great and have quickly become part of our Olympian family.
On September 13th we will have our first spirit rally of the year. The students don’t know it yet but Mr. Rafer Johnson called me on Friday and he will make a surprise visit that day. He had committed to come and visit “his students” four times this year.
Our campus is looking better than ever. James Scott and his maintenance and grounds staff have worked hard painting, pouring concrete, and making sure that our campus is at its best. We appreciate all that they do.

Common Core standards and you can feel a renewed spirit of learning in both our

We
had a great Back to School Night. We tried something different this
year. We held our Back to School Night the night before school
started. We had a phenomenal turnout from our 7th
graders. We decided to do it the night before school starts to relieve
the nerves of our incoming 7th graders and their parents. This
was a great sacrifice on our teachers part but it really paid off the first day
of school. We had a very smooth start and we are looking forward to
amazing things this year!
Roosevelt Elementary School - Welcome Back!
The start of the school year has been
very smooth, and I am pleased to report that our students are very happy at
their new school and in their new classrooms.
I am thrilled to be here and see them learning from their teachers and
sharing their knowledge with classmates!
The Importance of First
Grade:
It all
begins here. First grade is the first
grade level that is a requirement for all students to attend. First grade is where students continue to
learn how to read and write well. First
grade is where students understand basic math facts. In fact, we will have a math facts program at
our school that is part of the district math facts requirements. Because of the importance of first grade, we
are grateful to you for your involvement in your child’s education. We are working on our beginning of the year
assessments as well as CELDT testing in the next two weeks. We look forward to getting these results as
it will help us better meet the needs of our students! As you can see, we are moving and shaking at
Roosevelt!

Lincoln Elementary School - Welcome Back!
Character Counts! Education
will start at Lincoln Elementary!
Lincoln Elementary won the Bonner
Character Education recognition several years ago, and we are now increasing
our efforts to improve our character education program. Each month, the students will be exposed to
lessons, activities, and/or literature that promote one of the Character Counts
Six Pillars of Character-Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness,
Caring, and Citizenship. Every month
each class will have a Student of the Month, and a different trait will be
recognized-September is trustworthiness.
Also, students can receive character slips for demonstrating any of the
character pillars. Getting slips results
in praise and small prizes for students.
We will kick off the year with a motivating Character/Anti-Bullying assembly
on September 13th!
Fundraisers
Throughout the year we participate in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program. Box Tops are found on the packaging of General Mills products, such as cereal, snacks, and paper products. They are worth at least ten cents each and sometimes more. If you purchase items with the Box Top logo, please cut them out and send them to school with your student. Each classroom has a collection jar.
We will also continue the Shares program, which is a card you use at any Save Mart store, as well as at Food Maxx. We will be providing Shares cards to families of our new second graders very soon. If you have a friend, neighbor, or relative who would like a card, please let us know and we will provide an extra one. Each time you shop, slide the Shares card at the cash register, and 3% of the money you spend goes to our school! If your child is a third grader you can continue to use the same card as last year. If you have a relative that would use the card, just let us know and we will send an extra one home. Our school earned over $4,500 last year from our participation in the Shares program.
September 11th-First Flex Day of the year-school is dismissed at 1:30 today and all other Wednesdays (except foggy days.)
